This ABC Q&A debacle just keeps getting bigger. Yesterday we saw all the confected conservative outrage about this, and then the ABC pulled the episode from iView online (I haven’t checked to see if it is back up yet). And now we see more self-censorship from the ABC over this issue. Keep in mind that Turnbull phoned all the top brass at the ABC to complain after the Q&A episode. So there is clearly a lot of political pressure on them to conform.
What’s really disturbing about this is that it appears the ABC is going along with an attempt to erase what this guy said. Other than the obvious censorship and free speech issues, it’s worrying because when you watch what he said, it’s eminently reasonable and it drew a disturbingly fascist like response from the government MP on the show. So, while the conservatives can paint this guy as an extremist they can rely on people not being able to see for themselves that regardless of what he is, his question was calm, measured and spot on.
I can’t wait to see what ridiculousness tomorrow brings over this issue.
